Water cameras
I am looking for options for cameras to use at places like Discovery Cove.
In 2019 I used an old IP68 rated Samsung mobile phone. The footage was amazing and so many people questioned how I was using my mobile in the water. Unfortunately as Discovery Cove has salt water the phone didn't survive for much longer than the holiday so I can't take it this year. I didn't realise that GoPro were so expensive. So the options are spend for a GoPro, which honestly isn't really an option. Buy an old mobile from Ebay but you don't know the history of the phone so can't guarantee the IP rating so it might not be water proof or get something else. I have tried the water proof bags before, which I did keep the mobile phone in during our 2019 trip while not in use, but thankfully the phone was waterproof as the bag kept leaking.

Second hand GoPro off eBay. Get a 7 Black, very good and now much cheaper.

We just bought a GoPro Hero 7 from eBay, there are some excellent deals on there! Many are hardly used so definitely worth a look.

I wondered about this as we are doing Discovery Cove - are you allowed to take the cameras in with the dolphin swim?

Unfortunately the seller was just a personal seller listing the one Go Pro, so unable to provide a recommendation. We got it in a package with lots of accessories. Seems to be a good resale market though so there were plenty to choose from - ours was a bit of an impulse buy so just choose a good priced one and went for it!

If we talk about the price-quality ratio, GoPro is the best choice.
Besides, it is also very easy to wear, it does not take up much space |

I have used an Olympus Tough TG4 for several years. It can be dropped onto concrete from 2.1m, is waterproof to 15m and generally pretty unbreakable. It takes great pictures in any environment and is pretty much bulletproof.
I would never risk any good camera phone in the water under any circumstances, whether in a waterproof bag or otherwise. They cost too much. Discovery Cove?.. great for photos.. other than the Dolphin Swim. The modern equivalent is the identical in appearance, but updated TG6. Edited at 04:22 PM. |
