I'd rather see DH than when people buy into their online persona and refer to their OH (other half ) as, for example 'Mr Poohbears#1fan'

I also work in an Industry where acronyms are rife , when I first transferred over, I asked for an explanation of the ones used and was sent a 2 page word document , equivalent to 2 A4 sheets just with acronyms unfortunately my own initials are one so I have to put my name in documents if I am transcribing them.
Acronyms are part of forum life.

Agree. If you don’t like them don’t use them. But unless I am posting something not within Dibb rules, I have the freedom to express my post any way I want.

I have been a member of about eight different forums over the past 30 years. This sort of OP (opening post) crops up on every forum from time to time. And the wisest thing I ever saw about internet forums was posted at least 20 years ago:

Learn the culture
Bow to the gods

(ie the owners/moderators/admin, who have the right to decide how their own site runs)

All forums use abbreviations and expressions that others won’t understand, it’s a natural part of communication. If you don’t want to find out what they mean, you don’t have to. But don’t throw a hissy fit when others do.

I have a serious problem of dual Dibbers with glittery signatures such as "Mick & Joan" replying as "Mick" when their real names are "Dave & Sarah".

We have loads of acronyms at work- one time a colleague who I didn’t know had messaged me with MOLD at the end of her name. I could not work out what it meant so in the end went back to ask her - she was based in Mold in Wales

I can only apologise and confess that my real name is not in fact, Cornish Frogboy.
Perhaps I should immediately revert to Theophillus Aloysius Spamburger III in order to avoid confusion.

I've never doubted that you were Cornish CFB - our exchanges over the years about laid up Cunard shipping in the River Fal back in the 70's confirmed it for me. Also recognising my posted photos of Praa Sands and Holywell Bay from the same decade.

It was clinging on to the word "boy" that confused me.

Are you related to the "old money" Spamburgers from the Hamptons by any chance?

Mick
