I think when you downgrade card the vouchers go back to 1 year validity.

The premium card also comes with this (which I did not know about)
Travel accident insurance protects you for up to £250,000 when you buy your ticket on your Card.

+ £200 for flight delay, overbooking or missed connection.

+ £750 for baggage delayed by airline for six hours.

+ An additional £1,000 for extended baggage delay by airline

Once you've got the voucher safely in your BA account, it doesn't change. You can therefore go back to the free card with no issue.
