How do you avoid post flight sinus/cold?
What are your top tips and products for avoiding getting Ill post long haul flight?
I like to have the air blowing on me as I don’t travel well and need to stay cool, however I remember feeling ill the last 2 times that we flew long haul. What are your experiences and top tips for avoiding post flight illness?

The air con can dry you out quite quickly.
I find a mini steam from a hot cup of tea every few hours quite helpful |

We have just bought a nebuliser for our next trip as it was recommended to us as working well.

Always use First Defence (or similar) nasal spray before you board any plane.

My eyes and nose dry out terribly on flights usually but since the first time flying on the Dreamliner we always look for flights on that plane now as it never happens flying on that. Before I used to use First Defence to ward off colds or just plain old vasaline up your nose.
I take a Travel Humidifier whenever I go away as the aircon in rooms leaves me with dry eyes/nose/throat otherwise.

I take antibacterial wipes and attack the plane seat, tray table, TV screen, safety card... Basically anything I need to touch (honestly follow passengershaming on insta and you'll all start)!
Vicks first defence also sounds like a great idea. And although it will look weird I'm seriously tempted to wear a mouth mask/face mask thing on the night flight on the way back as I find that when I drift off my mouth opens and then you end up breathing a load of super dry air and that makes you feel rotten. Whereas with a face mask you'd effectively humidify the air in the mask. Not done that one yet but may try on my next flight!

Honestly, I do nothing; no wipes, Vaseline, nebuliser, mask, vicks, sprays etc; nothing.
Can truthfully say, I don’t get post flight colds or illnesses; just got back a week ago from California; usually 4-5 long haul flights a year. |

After suffering with colds etc after e wry flight I now insist that we all take berocca (obviously not my 6 year old lol) the week before and whilst we are away. The day of the flight we all use first defence nasal spray. I wipe all the surfaces over with detol wipes on the flight and take hand gel. I also make sure we all drink loads of water to keep hydrated, no alcohol.
Then I hope for the best! The main reason I hate flying is due to the germs! 🤮 |
