Austria

We are thinking of doing a package holiday to Austria next year, any recommendations of who to book with? I normally do DIY but know nothing about Austria so safer to go all in. Also looking for recommendations of areas. Looking for a mountains and lake location, nothing too hard going. Easy walks and gorgeous scenery.

TIA

We love Austria and have been many in the summer. Our favourite resorts with lots to do are Seefeld and kitzbuhel although Soll is also very nice but much smaller. We usually go with Inghams but have also used Tui. We are going again in July to Zell am See for the first time.

We love Austria, it's a stunning country. We've stayed in many small villages but our favourite with a lake is Zell am See,so handy for getting the cable car up the mountain,or getting to Kaprun Dam on the local buses,or getting the train to lots of different places. We also love Mayrhofen,we did a trip from there to Lake Garda.

We are trying Zell am See this time as we will get the Zell am See summer card included which gives us free use of cable cars and ferry's on the lakeand entry to various attractions as well as free or reduced rates on public transport.

We have also been to both Zell am see with Crystal and Mayerhofen with Thomsons, but in the 90's when the boys were pre teens. It was a great holiday for them, plenty fresh air and walks and cycling.

We found eating out very expensive and were glad we had half board, so at least dinner was taken care of. Drink was also expensive but in Zell am See, our package included two drinks with dinner. We had to order dinner at breakfast time. The breakfasts were fantastic and kept us going all day. I don't know if they still have the traditional holiday reps now, but they were very hands-on and we went on several of their guided walks and cycles. Both hotels had entertainment in the bar at night and the boys still tak about the slightly cheesy duo in Zell am See called "Inge and Steve", except being young, the boys read Inge to rhyme with hinge, a source of great merriment.

We are going to Zell am See in July! Definitely recommend finding hotel that has the summer card, and half board if possible it works out the best value. We are staying at the Romantik hotel. Its a beautiful place in summer.
