Has anyone been on a skiing holiday but not done the skiing part?

Strange question really, but my son age 12 is desperate to learn to ski. Myself and my husband are probably past it now. (Late 40s, and DH has a very dodgy knee)
Is there anywhere recommended in Europe that is suitable for a youth to do ski school while parents have a hotel or resort based break? Not sure if this would be expensive and pointless or enjoyable. Is there anything else to do while people ski?
Our son would be ok learning to ski on his own as he is quite sociable. Do they get put into age based groups?
I know nothing of ski holidays (apart from being v expensive!)

Is there anywhere near you with an artificial ski slope? If you do go, what do you and your DH plan to do all day. Must say its not my idea of a holiday as I don't do cold!

Could your son do a school ski trip or a youth activity trip?

You certainly can! I have a large family group going next year
The children are doing ski school
The men are getting lift passes and doing their own thing and the women are not skiing at all!

You’d just book the flights and accommodation and only get the add ons for your son
Some resorts are ski in ski out and which would be better in your situation

It's completely possible as others have said above.

You could get day lessons for your son maybe combo of group and solo so he can explore with a guide.

For non skiers, At Les arcs 1800 for instance, you can get right to the top of the mountain as an on foot lift passenger. And the ice bar and main bars.

There are lots of other activities for non skiers - snow show walking, hiking, swimming, spa, toboggan.

The mountains in winter are stunning for everyone. The adults could try a ski lesson just to have a go!

its perfectly possible, albeit an expensive holiday.

coud you go to an indoor ski slope to let your son try it out, just on the offchance he hates it. skiing is amazing though.

Yeah some resorts offered this. The one we went to don’t have enough for those of us not skiing. But it was nice for some down time!

Yes! I went to Banff in 2019 with my husband, parents and brother, and my parents didn’t ski/board.

They did canyon walks, snow shoeing, the Lake Louise gondola, the sunshine village chair lifts, the hot springs, snow shoeing, Cave & Basin etc.

They really enjoyed it, and we’ve talked about doing it again.
