I'm really not sure about the route..

I think we want to fly to and from LA
and then drive up to San Francisco and from there to Vegas then back to LA
what is the best route from SF to Vegas?

I think most people would recommend doing La to lv to sf to la rather than other way round so that when driving the pacific coast highway, the ocean is on your side of the road.

Vegas to sf is best via death valley and Yosemite if during the summer

We did SF to Vegas years back and went through Yosemite and Death Valley. Yosemite was amazing and the drive to and out of Yosemite towards Death Valley was wonderful. We stopped for dinner at a Denny's just before Death Valley and drove through late at night getting to Stovepipe Wells about midnight then drove on to Vegas the next day.

I want to do a similar trip to you but without SF and I'm still wondering whether to save Monument Valley for another trip to give us more time in our other places as it is so far away!
