What proportion of the country do you think enjoy going to work...
Only ask as it’s Monday morning and I really can’t be bothered at the moment..
Over the past few weeks my mind is constantly thinking about how much I can’t wait for retirement which is a bit of a problem as I’ve got a mortgage to pay and I’m only 46 😊 Problem is I’m at the stage of my career that I can’t really afford to take a pay cut that would inevitably be needed should I want to change career. Anyway mini moan over and back to work I go.

I'm not sure many would say they enjoy the day to day routine of going to work, especially on a miserable and grey Monday morning. I think a larger percentage would say they tolerate their job!
I work from home on a Monday and it's a nice way to ease into the week. Do I enjoy my job? I've come to the realisation that whilst I don't bounce out of bed like Tigger every morning, I do like my current job more than any other job I've done and I get paid alright (for what I do), work/life balance is fine and I get job satisfaction from it. What would you do if you could change career? Would you actually enjoy that if you were doing it every day? |

To be honest, if I did go down another, legitimate, career route then I’d probably feel the same. (Legitimate in that i’ll never get the dream job of being a pilot 😊 ).
I work from home too, one day in the office per week which happens to be today which may have something to do with my mood 😊. I also am paid well and have a good work life balance. It’s just the realisation that I’ll still be doing this in 15 years plus time that is getting me down. Guess the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.. Edited at 10:48 AM. |

OP, I'm interested to know what is it about being a pilot that makes it your dream job?
Depending on what the particular attraction is, there might be roles out there which could give you the same or similar (although the grass isn't always greener on the other side). |

I’ve always loved plane travel and the atmosphere of airports. I applied to be an air traffic control officer when I was doing my a levels but didn’t get through the ‘test’ phase to get an interview.
In many ways I’m paying for being an indecisive teenager who had no idea what to do. I pretty much fell into this career (I do health economic excel modelling looking at cost and effectiveness of new treatments) and while I enjoy the geeky excel side it’s the subject that isn’t of great interest. My skills are transferable to other industries and if I could do the same job but modelling passenger numbers at airports I’d be in dreamworld😊Unfortunately it would require moving away from York to do that and I’m too settled to do the upheaval. There is jet2 who are based in Leeds which is a possibility and I always keep an eye out on their site.

It's a good idea to keep an idea on the Jet2 website, but there are loads of jobs/careers which involve international travel and any of those would give you the airport / aeroplane travel experience. I'm sure lots of Dibbers will travel for their jobs. Good luck EC |

Whatever the percentage is of people who enjoy going to work I'm not in it.
If I could afford it I'd never go back and when I leave whether it's for another job or retirement I'll do my best to never set foot in the place again.

I LOVE my job, it's taken me 2 1/2 years to find the right role after going back into nursing in 2016, whilst I've enjoyed the other roles, I've finally found the one that really insprires me.
It's a great place to be. Sorry you're struggling, I was right with you in my last post, where I was recruited with lies basically then used as a pair of hands and kept from my specialist role, I hated it and begrudged being there, if it wasn't for my holiday passion, I'd have left a lot sooner than I did!

I have two jobs - one I like and is the best job I have had , the second one is not so good.I have to leave for it in minute and really dont want to go! Trying to decide if going and not really liking it is better than having less money.

I mostly love my job, although there are some internal goings on which are unsettling me and definitely impacting on my enjoyment of the job. But even on the best of days, I don't bounce out of bed.
It is hard when you get used to a certain standard of living, and making changes will impact on that. I took the leap a few years ago, leading to a few years of not great money, but now I earn more. So change does not have to mean a long term drop in your standard of living.
