I think I only did I it once as it was a long boring way to get a few pennies. I was always a vfm type of person even lack then - easier to load/unload the dishwasher and earn more pocket money that way

We did - sort of rhyme

To be honest it was the best piece of maths I ever learned as the only piece I still use today . Fractions and the rest a total waste of my time

A brand new silver sixpence we all had to kiss then it was put into the Christmas pudding and we all stirred once before being wrapped up to mature in the larder . Then worrying we might bite into it and break our teeth ! (Or even worse swallow it lol)

When I did a Saturday job in retail we had to do all the adding up and change in our heads in pound shillings and pence, also when selling fabric we had to do the sums in our head for sales such as three and a quarter yards at £3 2s 6d a yard. Always thought I was poor at maths but I must have been good

I was 9 and my brother 11 on D-Day. We went round our local toy shop pointing out to the owners that 6/- was not the same as 60p. (Nearly all their prices were wrong - I bet they loved us! )

I still have a game of decimal dominoes, like this one

where you have to match the old money to the new.

And I used to love winding my Nan up by translating the prices into old money.
