The only advice I can give is that the longer your husband engages in any way with this person, the longer this will continue.

I used to be a solicitor and occasionally dealt with residential property. Some buyers are just like this. They will keep coming back and coming back for years with petty complaints and issues. The sooner they realise you aren’t going to engage with them the sooner they will give up and focus their attention on someone else.

Thank you, this is what I told him 2 years ago

I agree with the other posts that suggest you just block them and ignore all future correspondence even if they threaten legal action, because people like that are frankly unstable. I have been in many houses where the new owner has required extensive electrical work they were unaware of which sometimes involved a full rewire, but unless the original owner provided them with a forged electrical certificate or said the house had been rewired when it hadn’t been then unfortunately its tough luck.

I would keep referring them back to their own surveyor at the time of purchase and his survey - he was responsible for highlighting any potential defects with the property when they bought it.

If they feel he didn't notify them of any apparent fault existing at the time, then they need to take this up with him - not you.

I'd also remind them that as you no longer own the house, you no longer have any connection with it, so you no longer wish to be contacted on any matter concerning it.

Easier said than done, but you need to be throwing the ball back over the fence to them until they get the message,

Had another thought about this ... can't you just keep replying that you don't know as it was work done by a previous occupier, and you don't have their contact details ?

That would be prolonging an issue that simply shouldn’t exist and needs to be curtailed.

Best (IMHO), put an end to it through a Solicitors letter and without any further personal engagement.

There comes a time when you must draw a line

Here is an example. My late Parents bought a house off a Professor who was World renowned. The Mail they had for him after the move date was circa 30 pieces a day!

My dad religiously wrote the Professors new address on every piece and redirected them. He used to fill the local postbox at 5.00pm daily!

After 1 Month he wrote to him asking him to put a stop to this - no reply

So he carried on redirecting for another 2 months and the amounts continued.

He then wrote to him again saying from that day he was slinging the lot. Snotty letter came back demanding he continue to redirect the mail.

Binned that response and all the letters that came including stuff that was important such as Bank statements, Tax matters etc etc. he had his chance and blew it.

Unfortunately we had owned from new so can’t use that😆. Dh hasn’t said anymore about it and me digging in social media discovered that the plumber from 2009 died in the summer, and the one from 2016 seems to have retired, not that I would have given him their names anyway! As I think I said, for all we know it could be something he’s done, we didn’t use “cowboys” as we lived there for years after both works were done and value our health! Having done some reading I am convinced that no lead products would have been used in any work we had done😡

I will be asking dh tonight whether he has replied and if so in what vein and make my feelings clear about how we should move forward if the buyer hassles us again, I am not a violent person but just makes me want to slap/shake him and say we sold place in good faith, we are decent people and sometimes things just happen. He should see what we’ve found in this house but we haven’t gone crying back to the people we bought it from and I guarantee the issues here have been worse than he has winged about. Sorry for the rant, off to find some chocolate now and calm down 😆

Same here, we paid for an expensive redirect but old people didn’t to start with, but soon did when I put note with bundle of mail I dropped in. We have recently started getting stuff again, even Amazon parcel, which we refused to accept😳 I now put gone away and drop in post box next time I pass!
