we dont need a test when we come home.

so do the airlines or usa officials check to see if we have one prebooked ?

Its The English authorities asking for a booking code

In fact at Manchester airport (terminal 2) I think Randox has a place. Was about to book it for ourselves, but now scotland is in line with England regarding LFT day 2 tests, we no longer need to

You won’t get hassle at MCO, it’s nothing to do with leaving the US. I would say if the Isle of Man don’t require it then you don’t need it.

I don't think so, as you're considered a transit passenger for England. There's no requirements for vaccinated transit passengers through English airports, official guidance is only that you need to follow the rules for your final destination. So if there's no testing required in IoM, you don't need to book one.

You still need to do the passenger locator form, but you would select transit on there. Which presumably would make the day 2 test section not required.

I just did a dummy PLF and as long as you do not go through UK border control but stay airside then you do not need a test for the UK PLF. Not sure if you have to clear immigration at Manchester though or you can stay airside for your connecting flight.

Following this with interest. We are Isle of Man too but have to transfer from LHR to LGW so definitely no chance of avoiding border control by staying airside

From the Gov.uk website it looks like you should be ok as you don't go sightseeing on the return! (as long IOM is classed as international..)

When you transit through England to international destinations
You do not need to quarantine on arrival or take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and day 8. This applies if you are transiting airside or landside.

You must either:

remain within your port of entry until your departure from England, or
travel directly from your port of entry to another port of departure in England
