Yes cranberry sauce is a must...but nope I've never made it and just used jars...supermarkets sell lots of fresh cranberries at Christmas but not all year round and not this early.

I picked up a frozen turkey crown from Aldi yesterday, £14.49 for a 2.8 kg one. Slightly cheaper than Iceland, who were advertising one at £17.99.

I've seen lots of frozen turkeys everywhere. I think we're just going to get a crown though. Debating whether I should splurge on an M&S one or get an Iceland one that is surely just as nice.
See above for frozen turkey crown - try Aldi. We have had theirs before and they are perfectly fine!

So I Googled how much honey replaces sugar, and it said 1.5 tablespoons of honey = 1 tablespoon of sugar. I made a rough guess and think I got it right - it was sweet enough, but as I said I couldn't taste honey, so think next time I'll replace all the sugar with honey. I like the idea of using buttermilk instead of ordinary milk as well!

I'm glad someone said it freezes well, I seem to have made a huge amount so will pop some in the freezer now.

Thanks for all your menu suggestions.

I was also considering a sweet potato casserole but thought these looked like a good idea:

Are there any good green bean casserole recipes?

I have only just found this thread, I rarely come in this sub-forum! I do a Thanksgiving dinner every year, but it has never been very traditional as it was always rushed after work. This year I have fully committed and taken the day off work so we will (hopefully) be having:
  • Chicken (a turkey is too much for two people!)
  • mashed potatoes
  • garlic butter green beans
  • Roasted sprouts with bacon
  • Mac n cheese
  • dinner rolls
  • apple pie

A few new things on there for me so we shall see how it actually tastes!

Everyone else's sounds amazing too, hope you all have fun 🙂

I was going to cook a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday until I noticed that a local smokehouse restaurant is doing one as a special. Much, much easier and probably more cost effective for 2 of us

That menu sounds tasty, with the tater tots and the mornay.
