On a separate note - and apologies as I have not researched this properly, but are there any insurance companies that would cover the cost of the hotel quarantine back in the UK (for example if we went out there, and the country went onto a Red list?) ...read Martin Lewis's article and i dont think there are any companies.
I don't think there are. Staysure for example will cover anything that arises from you personally getting Covid but nothing that arises from any government action.

me and my lad caught it back in may then 4 days later wife tested positive

This is us. The news about this new test came out last night as we were uploading everything for today’s flights and doing online check in so too late to back out without losing thousands of £s. So we’re going with it.

We had booked (and received) unsupervised day 2 LFTs prior to those changing so they’re coming with me on the off chance the company can/will arrange video calls to turn them into the appropriate pre-departure tests. There’s also an option at MCO I keep hearing about plus there’s usually a clinic happy to take your money and produce a FTF cert. so we have possible solutions.

Plus I’ve got boxes of nhs LFTs with us to test throughout and take what precautions we can while trying to have a good holiday, because, god knows - we need this break.

That’s the problem for families. If you don’t all test positive on the same day you could potentially be stranded for 2-3 weeks at huge expense.

We’re doing the same with our original LFT’s, we don’t fly back till the 30th so things may well change before then so I’ll keep my money till I know for sure 😁

We are still going for it. As others have said - life is for living! Covid is not going ANYWHERE, we will still be having rules changing for several years to come. There is no wait until next year and things might be better...

Yes one of us could test positive - but wasn't that the case anyway?! The only difference is now you can't board the flight pretending you don't have Covid to get home...

We were supposed to be flying on December 16th but changed to December 12th a few days ago.

I haven't really considered cancelling. All those months off wishing we could go to Orlando and now we can we feel like we have to do our best to go. I'm sure it'll be worth it.

I am over thinking the 'what if' but need to be rational about it all.

Fingers crossed for everyone! I hope we get to join you.

Totally get this is a risk but I guess if the rule in the US that you all have to isolate if one has it then the rest wouldn’t be able to get on a plane anyway?

Oh gosh, I don't think I'd actually considered that. You have to keep forking out for pre-departure tests each time, so if you're a family of 4, that's potentially £100s and £100s in testing and up to 40 days isolating and stuck in the hotel 😱

Imagine if you were a family of 5, 6, etc. Beyond a nightmare.

Edit: in fact, could it potentially be even longer, if everyone had it after 40 days they'd all need a proof of recovery from a Dr. Since presumably once a whole family tested positive there would be no point trying to test again within 10 days. More time and expense.

Edited at 10:38 AM.

not a chance we are still going 100%
We travelled to Greece in the summer and the rules were exactly the same. Once we were there we put all the testing behind us and started to have a holiday which was amazing.
I fully intend to do the same in Florida especially the amount of money we have spent and the changing of bookings. I can't bring myself to think about changing this booking again! Don't let our government stop you holidaying! Think of the positives if its now an LFT on way out and back within 24hrs you are hopefully flying with a plane full of people without Covid!
