Help please in case I have to Cancel

I never thought we would ever look at the possibility of cancelling a Disney holiday but here we are and I actually don’t understand what normally happens to points once a booking is cancelled.

So we are due to fly out of Dublin with United on 3rd August, staying the first week at the Rosen Plaza. Then on 10th August we have 1 week in a two bed value at AKL followed by a second week in a deluxe studio standard.

The DVC booking is made with 2019 and 2020 points, our use year is April.

Does anyone know how late we can leave this to make the decision and if we can cancel close to the date what would happen to the 2020 points, can we bank these before end Nov as usual or are they put into holding? Although I’m not sure I even understand what holding means.

Can anyone please give me the idiots guide if having to cancel a DVC booking?

Andi as I understand it at the minute, they will all return to their UY, the '19 points will be allowed to be Banked but if you beed to Borrow for a '20 trip you can only borrow up to 50% of your points. Our trip is booked with '20 points so if we have to cancel then hoping this will still be the case.
Worst case we might need to look at a Apr/May trip to use before we would lose them
