Flight Length... LHR-MCO

Hey guys, sorry if this has been covered already.

Noticed on my Virgin flights that the flight length is "Journey duration: 10h 10".

between 40-60m longer than usual, anyone else come across this? normally flight is around the 9hr mark.

Thanks

Liam

The current aircraft can't fly as fast as the old 744's.

Are you flying in winter for the first time? It's always a bit slower than summer. I fly in winter and while over 10h is a bit longer than normal, it doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me. Change of aircraft may make a difference as well.

But note that flight times on schedules are gate to gate, rather than the actual flight time. So they have buffer.

Normally go half term October so only a few weeks later in year compared to normal, but as comment above said seems different aircraft that is slower than previous model.

Shifting October to November might make enough of a difference to push you into the winter schedule. I'm not sure of the exact switchover date off the top of my head.

But I looked it up out of curiousity and a 747 max speed is 920kph where an A350 is 900 and an A330 is only 880. On a roughly 7000k trip like LHR-MCO, that will make about half an hour difference between the A330 and 747.

Don't forget the clocks going back/forward make a difference too and will change the time, when we had flights booked with AA it said a ten hour flight but when the clock changed in the USA it then altered to 9 hours

I did think this but UK clocks go back this weekend and the USA week after on 7th, so i thought everything would of been back to normal.

The speed difference in reality between the B789, A35K and B744 is nothing when taking into account aircraft don't fly close to their maximum mach speeds. The A330 however does generally fly a little slower at 0.82 (or 82% the speed of sound) compared to around 0.84 on the other aircraft.

Airborne time, wind conditions permitting will still generally be around 8:30-8:45. The block times (aircraft pushes back vs shuts its engines on stand) are usually overinflated to allow for small delays - Naturally LHR will have a longer taxi time than LGW, but the block time normally also covers those stronger wind days.

We normally have about 9 and half hour flight whether it is in the winter or summer, accept the time we were flying on the day the plane went into the hudson river in New York, that flight we were pushed more into Canada and took about an hour long

We normally fly on British Airways 777.
