Simple Guide

Apologies for this... can somebody give me a simple guide on how renting/ buying points works and the estimated savings etc? I've never done this before and thought it might be a way of saving money. I'm looking to stay at OKW, Polynesian Resort, AKL or similar. Also, I assume you don't get the benefits such as free DDP etc if you booked a hotel (non DVC points) through WDW Travel or similar?

Sorry if this is a stoopid question and has been asked and answered before.

First of all, you need to decide on your dates of travel. If you then look at the DVC calculator on the side menu, put the dates in, and select which resort you would like to stay at and what type of accommodation ( studio / 1 bedroom / 2 bedroom / grand villa). That will then tell you how many point you need.
You would then need to find someone to rent the points from. Reservations can be made from 11 months out if the member owns at the resort you want to stay at, otherwise its 7 months out. Some dibbers rent their points out, and others have used places like Davids's DVC rental, or DVC dream rental who advertise here on the Dibb. You are generally charged per point.
There is no free DDP with DVC. You can add the dining plan on, but you have to pay for it. The member has to add it on no later than 48 hours before check in, and it has to be paid in full at the time of adding it, in $.
You are still able to use magic express, get the +10 advantage for ADR's, and make FP at 60 days out. You also get magic bands.
With DVC, you do not get mousekeeping every day. You get trash and towel on day 4, and then a full clean on day 8.

If you have a look through the DVC point rental forum, you will be able to get an idea of what people are charging per point, and work out if it's cheaper or not.

Can you get extra towels if needed? Only looking to stay 3 nights.

If you have a 1 bedroom or bigger you will have a washer and dryer so can wash the towels.

Otherwise extra towels can be obtained but there is a charge.

For pool purposes there are towels at the pool.
