Knee injury
I'm still suffering from a bad knee injury that I got last year in a car accident
I was just wondering a few things A, can you get a special parking badge for nearer entrances etc or does that only work for blue badge holders B, can you hire a scooter in the park? Or again do you need a blue badge to allow you to have one

Hiring scooters in the parks is expensive - much better to hire from a Disney approved provider. We use Apple scooters.

Sorry to say that you can only get a pass if you have a blue badge and I don't think that they're normally issued for temporary conditions. They're being very strict at present and I feel sorry for you as I too suffer with bad knees.
However, I'd do what I did and hire a scooter, but from a local Orlando company who will deliver/collect from your hotel or villa. They're much cheaper than hiring from Disney who are charging $50 a day. To compare, I hired a large 4 wheeled scooter last May from Florida Mobility Rentals for $261 for 13 days! That included insurance and they delivered and collected on time. I charged the scooter up every night. The problem you'll be faced with though is if you choose to hire your own scooter, and you look as if you'll be without a disabled parking permit. With the parking lot at MK, it's not possible to ride a scooter from there to the TTC. EPCOT, HS and AK seem much easier. My advice for a day at MK would be to park up at EPCOT and use the monorail to MK. Maybe I'm wrong and others have better advice but it's the lack of a blue badge that's hindering you. |

At MK is it possible to be dropped off at the guest drop off area then meet the rest of your party after they have parked up. We hardly ever get the tram and always try to walk to the TTC, even when pushing our grandson in his buggy, as it is often quicker. A small part is pavement going under a bridge, the rest the edge of the car park. We remember seeing buggies and wheel chairs but can't remember EVCs using this path. Perhaps someone else can.

I have the same problem with park parking and renting a scooter when not disabled. I have a degenerative knee problem which is no real problem at home but are no good for 10 mile+ long days walking and standing round the parks, so I rent a scooter, I wouldn't make it round.
I turn up at the parking booths and just tell them. I have a scooter but no blue badge and can't get on any tram. It confuses most at first but I've never really had a problem being directed to follow the blue line to parking near the front where the family can walk and I buzz along to the park entrances. It would be almost impossible in some parks if you had to park at the back and had a scooter as not all have walkways except to tram stops. Edited at 11:33 AM. |
