Dear Shazzabelle,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our eldest son in 2007 in a road accident and braved the already booked Disney holiday without him later that year. I have to say it was a very hard time for us all but I am so glad that we did. We have been back many times since and we always feel that our Matthew is there with us when we are having fun and enjoying our time together. It has brought us closer as a family and we really do feel that this is the one place on Earth that we are still all together as a family. Yes - there will initially be moments of unbearable sadness when you turn to talk to the person you love and they are not there. We kept bursting into tears in places that had magical memories and where we had such a great time as a family. However - we keep his memory alive and are now able to talk and look back on his life with great fondness and joy. We take a precious picture of Matthew with us when we travel and stand it on the bedside table of our hotel. Disney is a great place for families and I am sure that this will eventually form part of your healing process as it has with us. As you can see from the responses to your first post - there are many Dibbers here that have experienced the pain of losing their loved ones and only you can decide when you are ready to make that leap into the unknown - but rest assured - you are not alone and I am sure that everyones thoughts and prayers are with you at this particularly difficult time. Take care and God bless. Milly |

Excited about Disney

My husband died in December 2014 - we had been to wdw in 2012 and Disneyland in 2014 as well as many trips to DLP as a family of 4. We had planned to return to wdw in 2016 and at first I found it hard to contemplate without him, flying that far, managing the holiday on my own, doing all the driving etc (my boys were 10 & 15). But we decided to go and we had a wonderful time. Of course it was sad at times but we stayed at a different hotel and did some different things as well as repeating some things we had done before. My youngest found the hardest thing going on some of the rides that he would have done with his dad (when eldest and I would go off and do bigger rides), it was also a logistical challenge st times as even at 10 there are a lot of rides that he won't do, and sometimes eldest felt he was missing out on doing things with me. But overall it was a very positive holiday and we made lots of lovely memories. Sending you love and strength xx
