Bringing back a Battery Drill , is it ok?

Im thinking of buying a new Dewalt drill while over in Florida next week. Considerably cheaper than the UK. DO you think il be able to take it on a BA flight as Hand luggage? There is no sharp objects in it and no drill bits. Just a drill with battery and charger. (no different to a laptop)

thanks all
Chris

Just check that you have a charger that you can use. The charger that comes with it wont be any good to you here and the chargers alone are expensive! Not sure they will let you put it in hand luggage either :-/

Thanks for the reply, Should be ok on the charger as will stick a 110v plug on and use for when on sites over here. Imported my last dewalt set 6 yrs ago and bought a used charger off ebay.
I know it will be ok in the suitcase, but would feel safer with it in hand luggage, not that heavy either

I think the drill would have to go in hold luggage, and the batteries will have to be taken in hand luggage with the terminals covered. See this British Airways article and scroll down to batteries. I would check with the airline you are flying with.

Just found this on CAA site - drills/tools are banned from hand luggage.

Charger probably won't be a problem, if it is 110 only just buy a transformer, rated for the current.

I have always wanted to take home a new drill myself.

We looked for drills in July Lowes and Home Depot.
None of the chargers we saw werer dual voltage and therefore wouldnt work in the UK. You say you will be on building sites - will you be using a 110V transformer? If so than they will be fine.

Also, you can get some great deals in the UK. I think B&Q have one earlier in the week for a Makita. Cant remember if it had a nicd or lion battery tho. Make sure you go for lion.

Hi, my DH has a garage full of equipment such as this purchased in US! He always packs in suitcases though, and never had a problem. Why do you want to have it with you? Linda

Ha Ha! just saw this after I posted! ME TOO! my DH loves to browse, & shop in Lowes,Home Depot, and many of the Department stores who also sell tools! They are considerably cheaper and he does of course use them with transformers! Linda

My husband has brought allsorts of tools home, including drills and parts for his chainsaws etc etc never had a problem

We did get funny looks when we had a lock box in our hand luggage though, had to explain that at the time they didn't sell them here in the UK
