We normally go with Virgin Upper Class (pompous name I know!) and find it great. Used avios and 241 voucher this time with BA and just wondering if there will be much difference. Cabin looks much larger with BA with more seats 'squeezed' in.
Haven't flown VA in Upper but we flew BA Club class a couple of years ago to and from Newark. Excellent service, seats and really enjoyed the Club Lounge at LHR.

Having flown over I can answer my own question. Should anyone else be interested here is my opinion.

Virgin Upper Class wins for me. We were lucky enough to be upgraded from business to 1st class with BA; very lucky as we have no status with BA and were on reward flights. While the seat itself was better in BA the cabin, IFE, food, service and general feel is better with Virgin. In my opinion and based on my experience.

I have flown Virgin Upper, BA Club and First and other airlines Buis Class. In truth it's down to the quality of the staff on the day and that is not predictable.

Have had some fab flights in all and some rubbish ones. I would take the best value, departure point, time of day etc and the rest is in the lap of the gods!

Absolutely. You have hit the nail on the head.

The comparison, especially in business class, can also vary considerably depending on route and aircraft being used.

All true comments. But the Virgin Upper Class to Florida have much more space than BA - even in 1st Class. Virgin don't try and squeeze in seats in the middle of the plane.

Business class on the BA flight over looks even more busy than premium economy with it's honeycomb layout and seats facing forward and backwards. Admittedly most were in lie flat mode when I had a look.
Just a personal observation.

The first time I flew BA Club was because I got a really good price in their sale. It was actually slightly cheaper than Virgin Premium Economy and half the price of Virgins Upper. That saving was enough for me to choose BA and I've managed to get similar prices for the last 4 trips.

If I found Virgin Upper Class cheaper I would go with them.

Flew back with BA in their business class. Not very impressed. If you are in the middle two of four seats it is difficult to get out when those outside you put their seats in lie flat mode.

Poor layout compared to other carriers I have been on. Wouldn't have liked to have paid for those seats!

Oddly enough, some people love those middle seats for the enclosed feel they give. Personally I agree with you and unless you get a bulkhead seat it's a fuss getting to the loo.

The club world product is getting a review and whether or not the current ying yang layout remains is another matter.
