I'm sure this time last year, many were able to get some fantastic flight deals for Xmas/ new year but there don't seem to be any this year.

I will ride it out until the end of the month and hopefully, Santa will start delivery presents early.

Last Jan we got a good deal for the summer. I've never looked for Christmas so can't comment on the best time to price that. However, sterling has tumbled since last Jan and so I expect that will have had an impact on flight prices. I imagine fuel is purchased in dollars, and we all know that, even if airlines have hedged on prices and currency they will be quick to increase costs and blame the currency

I've booked ours for xmas already, we got them for 540 with Iceland air via net flights with a 2hr stop over in Rekyavik. Happy with that price. Like you say I think they'll only go one way this year price wise!

Been looking at doing this route also, have you flown it before? How was the stop over in Rekyavik and how are Iceland Air ?

I haven't flown it before no! We are travelling with a baby so thought we may need a quick leg stretch. However some of the USA stop overs were 5 hours plus so that's too long. I understand Icelandair do a overnight stop over in rekyavik at no additional cost so that might be something that's suitable for you.

I've heard good things about icelandair. Although basic, (not in a Ryanair way)!they have extremely good reviews on trip advisor. Must say I've been impressed so far they gave us a great price and I've asked a few questions via twitter which were answered promptly!

Thanks for this, great advice. We probably would want to get there as soon as possible but it's good to know they have the stopover option too!
