The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights keeps on dancing

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights presented by Sylvania has become a holiday staple at the Disney-MGM Studios. And last year the spectacle became even more spectacular. It started "dancing" to music. It’s really quite, well, spectacular. This year it even features new music for the 5 million some odd lights to perform to. So even if you think you’ve seen it, you sort of really haven’t.
Passholders are already calling it one of the great traditions of the Disney holiday season. It all happens November 12 January 6.

The Disney-MGM Studios livens up the holidays with live gospel music
For the first time ever at a Disney Park, this year the world-renowned Harlem Gospel Choir will bring their soulful holiday sounds to the Disney-MGM Studios!

Stop by the Theater of the Stars on Sunset Blvd. some evening between November 30 and December 25, and catch one of three nightly performances sure to touch the depths of your soul and raise your spirits to angelic heights.
The Harlem Gospel Choir will be performing (in a way only they can) holiday favorites like "Are you Ready for a Miracle," "Joy to the World," "Silent Night," "O Holy Night," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and more.
"The choir is very excited to come to Disney," said Harlem Gospel Choir representative, Lennie Swearingen. "The music and the energy are so powerful and moving. We’re thrilled to be able to share it."

So this year, get yourself into the Christmas spirit in a most-spirited way. Come by the Disney-MGM Studios and treat yourself to a whole new holiday experience.

Epcot has Character

Meet your favorite characters at the all-new Epcot Character Spot

Step into a cartoon world at the new Epcot Character Spot.
It’s where families can enjoy five different themes to interact with their favorite Disney Characters, plus get autographs, photos and, of course, hugs!
According to Forrest Barruth, show writer and director of this new bit of Epcot magic, "It took a couple of years to put this idea together. Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, and Chip ‘n Dale" each have a themed area; done with a backdrop and side pieces, so it’s really different.
"The built-in lighting and backdrops make it a great opportunity to meet the characters and take great photographs," Forrest told us. "The music you’ll hear is current and a lot of fun. It really is like stepping into a Disney cartoon."

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party gets even Merrier

If the Disney holiday traditions were stockings hanging from the mantle, this year they would be stuffed with all kinds of new treats. Partly in thanks to all the new goodies at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

If you think of what’s at the heart of Mickey’s big celebration, you’d probably think of the parade. Well, what you remember the parade to be, at least. Because this year Mickey and the gang kicked it up a notch. Starting with an all-new soundtrack, including a Disney original tune created just for the occasion, entitled "Once Upon a Christmastime." But that’s only the beginning. This year, there’ll be new costumes and some newly designed floats that represent the many joys of Christmastime. The different floats will be themed to Friends and Family, A Winter Wonderland, A Fairy-Tale Christmastime, Christmas Sweets (yum!) and A North Pole Christmastime, featuring the beloved jolly couple themselves, Mr. & Mrs. Claus.

Thousands of tiny white lights bring new magic to Cinderella Castle

That would be a very merry Christmas party in and of itself. But you know as well as we do that it doesn’t stop there. Not with the entire Magic Kingdom® Park to deck for the holidays. And let’s not forget about Cinderella Castle. This year it will shimmer in ice, courtesy of over 200,000 individual lights that will drape the turrets and towers of the magical fortress. Witness the magic as the new Castle Dream Lights come to brilliant life each night like a glistening blanket of ice.

A party yule love

Is it starting to sound like a very merry Christmas party? Well now, throw in some spectacular holidaythemed fireworks set to all your favorite traditional holiday music. Then add the magic of holiday stage shows. While you’re at it, put all the characters in their holiday garb, make it snow on Main Street for a bit and top it off with treats of cookies and cocoa. Of course, we can’t forget some of the most popular Magic Kingdom attractions for you to enjoy.

And just because we’re all caught up in the spirit of the holidays, let’s add one more surprise: as a Passholder, you can save $10 off the day-ofevent purchase price when you buy your tickets in advance for select nights (see below).

How’s that for an under-the-tree treat? One of the best, new and improved holiday celebrations this side of the North Pole. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Enjoy.

Disney vets help heal a bear pair

Disney’s Animal Kingdom team comes to the rescue of an injured mother bear and her cub

As wildfires raged through the Osceola National Forest, a baby bear cub climbed to temporary safety at the top of a pine tree, while his mother stood guard at the base of the tree with her paws blistering in hot ash. Ironically it all happened on Mother’s Day.

Luckily, the pair was rescued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. However, the ever-watchful momma bear had already suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her feet. Emergency care was provided by the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. But if this duo was ever to return to their home, a very special healing process would have to occur.

That’s when the veterinary team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park stepped in to help. The bears were transported to the Park and held in special areas to prevent regular human contact. After the mother bear’s feet were treated for burns, the pair was fed a natural diet that included berries, hearts of palm and fish to prepare them for their release into the wild. Just four weeks later, after lots of TLC, the mother’s paws were healed and the pair were reintroduced to their forest home.

For the Disney team it was just one more example of the care they provide thousands of animals each year at the Park. To see this incredible team in action, stop by Rafiki’s Planet Watch the next time you visit the Park.
