Cruising the Caribbean - Day six - San Juan, Puerto Rico

October 1st 2008

The weather today forcast to be 90f - Bit warmer than at home I expect? It was an early arrival into San Juan, around 6.30am. Alarm was set for 5.45, I went for a drink of milk in the Cafe Promenade , before going to deck 12 to watch the sunrise and the ship pull into port.

San Juan was in site. I forget the name, but this is an old famour fort. ( Is it El Torro?)

Sunrise wasn't that great this morning, but hey ho, better than the ones back home!

When we pulled in at our pier, we pulled in next to a US Navy ship, complete with helicopters! Amazing to see. I learned yesterday that they were here to watch the waters off Venuzuela , where Russia and said country were having some talks...

(Lots of men in uniform on deck... ;-) )

We got off the ship at around 8.30am. We weren't really bothered about this port of call, which was to turn out good anyway, my Nan wasn't feeling too well. ( Too much food I 'spect!)

There was all coconuts floating in the water.. Now that's something you don't see in Rhyl!

We found just one shop open on our 45 minute walk.. It sold just alcohol and Cigarettes. Apparantly the rest don't open until 10.30!

Now here's something that's been boggling my mind, when we were on the helipad ,I noticed some PENGUINS above the bridge. What's that all about? I can't find out WHY or what they mean anywhere!

Better view of them off the ship.

Got back on the ship within an hour of getting off.. ( It was only a short port of call anyway... 5 hours I think)
I spent a few hours by an empty Solarium pool.. and in the hotubs over hanging the ship! It was bliss.. So empty and SO hot!
I then went to the Windjammer and brought some lunch back.

(Healthy or what?)

More time was spent by the pool, before sailaway which was to be 2pm.

Saw a seaplane.

There were announcements put all over the ship for a family to go to the medical centre on deck 1 - this went on for a while. We left a couple of people behind , with their luggage. I don't know why or if they were the ones being called. It was weird , they were taking pics and watching us sail away. Quite sad really.. it's gonna be a holiday they won't forget whatever the reason..

Bye bye San Juan.

My body clock was now all mixed up, because were leaving so early!

I spent 2 or 3 hours cooking by the pool once again.. I'm not even that brown now.. I don't know why! ( Maybe the factor 40 I plastered on? )

Sunset was at 6pmish tonight. Very pretty it was indeed. As we left San Juan the captain told us we would experience some pretty rough sea tonight - woooaah! I've been waiting for this. He was right , we were rocking and rolling from the time we left Puerto Rico! BINGO!

Tonight was our ice show - and the first time of us seeing the onboard Ice Rink!

Walked through the casino - very impressive..

What can I say about this ice show? WOW! Absolutely amazing. As I said earlier, it was really rocky this evening.. How they managed to perform how they did I will never know! I didn't notice one fall or anything that didnt look like it was meant to happen!

The costumes were fab!

This lady apparantly was a guest star - who was an Olympic gold medalist, from Russia. Very bendy! ;-)

It was now 8pm.. We had 30mins to go back to the cabin, get changed into formal attire and head right back the other end of the ship. Would we make it? Of course! With 5mins to spare!

You can have a small version of me, Haha!

Had a fabulous meal in the dining room once again. Great company, great service and fab food!

No starter for me again, followed by the Black Angus top Sirloin.. Sooo yummy.

All the chefs came out of the galley and stood on the stairs for us all, before later coming around and talking to each table. The head chef came over and was talking to us.. Until he had to dash because there was an emergency in the kitchen.

Dessert was a trio sampler - YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYY!
Chocolate cake, Cheesecake and a little fruit tart thing. Delish!

After dinner , we went back to the room where I got changed out of my formal gear and into some shorts and a t-shirt. I went for a run around the jogging track.. Yes, really! Loved it!

Back at the room we discovered a monkey tonight!

That's it for day six, tomorrow, Labadee in Haiti!

Another great day Ste,know what you mean about the shops, when we were there we wandered for ages trying to find them! Were they still selling the bottles of rum punch and pina colada at the port when you were there? They were selling and people were sampling them at 9 in the morning before we did our trip I was good though and did not have any till we came back about lunchtime

I didn't see that! But did bloomin see dozens and dozens of people trying to get us to go on a tour. I think that's one reason we disliked the place!

we booked the rainforest trip throught the RCCL so we had no hassle. Maybe they don't sell the booze there now-------- too many squiffy passengers and that was only after one small sample!
