Wow - are all tooth roots this long ? ( warning not so nice picture)
Been to the dentist today for emergency removal of a tooth
It had been given me significant jip, overnight seemed to develop an abscess and thankfully I had an appointment today It was horrendous . The dentist must have done about 7 injections to try to numb the area as every time she tried to work on the tooth it was agony When she finally yanked it , OMG don’t think I have ever experienced pain like it - the gum and mouth may have been numb but the tooth certainly not in the slightest . Eventually this came out after lots of sessions of twisting turning and pulling . Are roots normally this size and do they normally have a hook like one half seems to have ? Sorry for the gross picture , the tooth was very clearly on its last legs

Wow , Well done you. I had a tooth extracted yesterday because I managed to split it in two on an olive stone. Mine took a while to come out too but he’s had to leave some of the root in for now as it wouldn’t come out. My mouth is still sore at the injection sites but extraction site not too bad today.

I think it is normal size as from X-rays I have seen that the root is a lot longer than the tooth height.
I have never seen a real one though, I feel slightly ill. 🤢. Could it not be saved / crowned? |

When you have an abscess it's very difficult to get local anaesthetic to work well in inflamed, infected tissue
If you get fed up you can find charts of teeth root length. It always amazed me how much tooth was hidden ( anaesthetic nurse so involved in removals). Most people only see baby teeth when they fall out & the root & soft tissues dissolve during the period when they become loose hence looking rootless. You have clearly been very brave & I hope the tooth fairy is very good to you. PS prices have gone up since childhood |

That’s a biggie.
I had a wisdom tooth done that had impacted a few years ago. I decided to have it with a local- my big mistake. Apparently because it had gone bad it meant the anaesthetic didn’t have an effect. Before they put me on the operating table I had three injections. Then because it was impacted, he had to first slice it in half. Yes, cut straight down the middle of it. Well the pain was unbelievable, because the anaesthetic simply wasn’t working. So he had to stop, then give me another two injections, one was straight into the exposed root. I nearly hit the roof. Until you’ve had an injection directly into a tooth root (only possible when it’s been sliced open of course) you have never felt tooth pain, trust me. So he then continues again, but again it was having no effect. Even the surgeon was getting worried at this point as the anaesthetists had gone home (Nuffield about 5pm Friday) and I had half a tooth sliced open. He told me only option was to hit me over the head with a hammer (he was joking- I think.) He then sent a nurse off to look for some special stuff which eventually they found and he injected in on top of the normal 5 injections. My whole face on one side went immediately numb. Then he could finish slicing through the tooth, then extract it. Worst hour of my life!

Oh my word .
Feeling a bit of a pussy myself after reading that I have left a credit card machine under the pillow with the tooth tonight . I presume tooth fairies don’t carry cash in these times
