Companion Vouchers Help

Hello everyone,

DH and I have 2 x companion vouchers with Virgin to use up - we’ve never used these before so were just looking for tips to try and avoid any pitfalls we might stumble into.

We’re planning to book 2 x return tickets in economy to Miami next May. We were going to use miles to book these and there’s reward availability showing. Virgin have said once we’ve booked the tickets we can then use our companion voucher subject to availability.

Is there any way to check availability before we book? And can we use a companion voucher if we book miles tickets? The only thing we’ve been told is that we can’t book economy light - that’s it.

Any advice appreciated.

Are you trying to use them as upgrade vouchers or companion vouchers?

OK so you can use miles or cash to purchase your economy tickets and then use a voucher to book your son as a companion return.

You would need a reward seat to be available for every miles seat you wanted to use plus one more for the companion. Either do a dummy booking or use seatspy to identify which days have enough reward seats.

Just wanted to pop back and say thanks for your help and advice! Used Seatspy to check availability - booked 2 x economy return tickets to Miami and then contacted Virgin today and they used one of our companion vouchers to make it 3 x economy return. £780 for the 3 of us. Pretty happy with that considering 3 x economy return tickets to Orlando was coming back at £1950 ish.
