Weather around So Cal will be warm to hot in the desert (Palm Springs)
North Cal can be hot but also can be foggy in the mornings (and cold) as the desert suck is the moisture from the ocean into the bay of San Francisco So Cal is kinds the same all year round really - generally not that crowded then again as its cooler than August it can attack locals who avoid the August high temps The only months I avoid are May/June and early July in So Cal as its gloomy at times and wound plan to go there at that time |

September is my favourite time to go. Wether wise we have always been lucky, not as humid, and less crowds. However that was pre pandemic, no one can predict the crowds anymore.

Busy up to Labour Day and then the Tuesday after Labour Day crowds drop dramatically. We go to the US for our birthdays so we’ve been in California late August/early September a few times and would chose early/mid September if we didn’t have work obligations. We’ve also noticed that hotel rates drop after Labour Day.
