Hey, no worries.

This is a major hassle but I’m sure I’ll sort it. This could be useful to anyone else who finds themselves in this predicament.

Sixt blaming me for cancelling and rebooking is an insult but should serve as a warning to anyone else who employs this practice to check the small print thoroughly to make sure the bookings remain identical.

OP. Whats done is done so no point letting it ruin your holiday. Sounds like you met the desk clerk from hell.

I would do two things as long as you know you are on firm ground.
Try to speak to Sixt via their customer services number.
If that fails deal with it when home.

As long as you can evidence they have mis sold you then armed with that information you can attempt to get a refund or do a S75 charge back by providing all the evidence to your credit card provider.

Best of luck.

Wise words indeed. Thanks.

Had a great drive from Miami to Clearwater today. Took the scenic coastal route up past St Pete’s from the sunshine skyway. Never really appreciated it before today.

Now in the Opal Sands hotel (we had our honeymoon here back in 2004 - it was the Adam’s Mark hotel back then) and it is beautiful.
Hit our usual villa in Orlando on Sunday so finally starting to unwind. It’s been three years in the making, after all.

Cheers.

Just a little update, as I enter the final leg of my trip.

I’ve been speaking to SixtUK via a tweet and subsequently through Twitters direct messaging feature.

Pleased to say that they have finally agreed to refund the LDW once the rental has been closed out. I must admit this took some doing and the threat of a credit card charge back may well have swung it (plus the evidence I had showing it was included).

It looks like I’m not getting the SLI back that mysteriously disappeared but I still class this as a victory.
LDW was $916 on this rental which was nearly as much as the whole rental itself.

Now it’s time to go and blow all that at the shops.

Thanks for all the input folks. You’re an awesome bunch and all the advice was greatly appreciated.

Glad that you've nearly reached a solution even though it was painful and caused unnecessary holiday stress.

One little tip - next time use a reputable UK broker such as Andy at DFCH. Car hire should be a pleasant experience not a stress.

Mick

Thanks Mick,

Ultimately, though, we’re all driven by money and the desire to save it.

I honestly believe that by my chopping and changing the booking and a pretty major website overhaul in between may have contributed to this “glitch”.

I’ve learnt my lesson and it won’t happen again!
