I agree about the shopping, its pants and nothing you cannot find elsewhere. On the BBcan you can go on boat trips to cawsand or further which makes a nice trip out. Usually there s loads going on in august, but even the firework festival has been cancelled this year. It should have been Mayflower 400 this year, but again allspecial events cancelled.
Short drive from plymouth you have mount edgecombe and Anthony House, national trust places, a short hop on the torpoint ferry.

Also if you going over that way a nice place to eat is Pirates Galley in torpoint, not far from ferry!
