The Barbican is a nice place to stroll around. I wouldn’t personally venture into the main shopping area as it’s not that exciting. You are close to various parts of Dartmoor which is very fun to explore - I can’t remember how old your children are but mine loved doing the letter boxing activities (free) and it enables us to get them to enjoy the countryside without knowing they were. Dart meet is my favourite place for a paddle and climbing on rocks and a pretty nice cream tea just a short walk away
Thanks Karen, they are 17 now! Will look at booking the gin distillery in advance then, good tip.

I agree about the shopping, its pants and nothing you cannot find elsewhere. On the BBcan you can go on boat trips to cawsand or further which makes a nice trip out. Usually there s loads going on in august, but even the firework festival has been cancelled this year. It should have been Mayflower 400 this year, but again allspecial events cancelled.
Short drive from plymouth you have mount edgecombe and Anthony House, national trust places, a short hop on the torpoint ferry.

If you plan to go to Looe, try Polperro as well, lovely village.
