Ha ha , Just been quoted £9000 for Sons Car Insurance!

Just spent the whole afternoon getting car insurance quotes for my 17 year old son, my brain is shot away, just rang Aviva and they quoted £9000

Cheapest so far is £1250 with Tesco Bank Box?
I guess that's not too bad

This is to insure a 10 year old vw polo in his own name

To be honest £1250 seems quite good in this day and age. The big quotes are just because they don't want to insure him but supply a ridiculous quote anyway. Have you looked at getting a black box? That can reduce it some.

That quote was with a black box for 17-25 year olds, so yes I don't think that's too bad, thanks

£1250 is very reasonable, £9000 is an absolute joke!

Insurance in Ireland is ridiculous for young drivers and many won't quote or will give outrageous quotes because they dont want them.

For over 21, the average is around 3 or €4000 and thats not even their own policy! Named driver!
Dont' know anyone who managed to get a quote under 21.
OVer 25's are a bit less.

Think my ds will be riding a bike at this rate!

Our DS first policy was multi car with Bell with Admiral and black box fitted both myself and DH as additional named drivers. This was on a Renault Clio with him living away at Uni. Unfortunately is isn't much cheaper now after five years as he's got points on his licence. It started out at about £1200 it's now just under £1000 on a skoda Fabia.
