Confused about second bag drop - special assistance at MCO

Been reading about the process for special assistance - which we have booked for arrival and info on here about trying to avoid the second bag drop due to long bag drops - what does this all mean?

DS uses a wheelchair, we usually have to do second bag drop as DH can't manage 3 cases on his own, up the escalator.

It means if your traveling companions can't manage all the luggage in their own you have to use second bag drop.

In the past we only got Special Assistance to immigration...then I had to push my wife to baggage and collect luggage and go through customs to the second bag stage. At this point my wife was taken by a member of staff to the lift to take her up to the next level where the monorail to the main terminal is.

If other members of your party can take the cases they can take them up the escalator and meet you at the monorail...if not put them on the conveyor and pick them up at second baggage collection in the terminal ( which is what we do)

I don't know whether you get special assistance from plane all the way through to terminal..but it may have changed

In fairness although I have heard horror stories about delays the longest we have waited is about 30 minutes, in the past I have used that time to sort the hire car out and get one of the baggage guys and his trolley to be ready for our cases when they come through

When we had assistance off the plane at MCO The lovely man helping and my husband took our cases up the escalator saving the 2nd bag drop. I went up the lift with my son's. The man helped us all the way to getting our hire car. Great help.

I wouldn't worry about avoiding the second bag drop, it's far easier to use it.
If you are hiring a car, go and sort the car out when you get off the monorail, by the time you have done that, your cases will be there waiting for you.

Your wheelchair porter will take you all the way to your car. I tip min $10, more depending on length of time & helpfulness. Most Dibbers try to avoid 2nd bag drop as it can be very slow. We waited over an hour once. If the ambulatory members of your group can manage your luggage on the escalator up to the monorail (my DH takes 2 large cases & a shoulder bag) I would def recommend ignoring the 2nd drop.

If no one collects your bags how do they get to the second bag drop and if we go and sort out the hire car will the bags be safe?

If you need special assistance and have no-one to help with baggage for 2nd bag drop just ask the porter to take you and your luggage in the lift (its just behind the 2nd bag drop conveyor belt) - they are really helpful. I usually tip them quite well and they are always happy to take you right through to the car rental/arrivals area

Once we get through immigration could we leave our dd with our ds and collect the bags? Or why could we just not go to the normal bag drop after immigration?
