trip stop off

During our trip in November(hopefully) i am looking for a good place for an overnight stop off between Orlando and Key West as i dont think all in one trip will be good as we cant start travelling until around 3pm due to dropping people off at MCO

We're travelling to Key West from Port Canaveral after our cruise this August (again, *hopefully*)...
Thinking a leisurely drive down the A1A, and an overnight in Miami.
We considered places like Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, but since it is a means to an end (ie, an overnight to split the drive), we've plumped for Miami, and a hotel in the parking lot of the Dolphin Mall (Courtyard by Marriott, courtesy of points). Bit of shopping, very early start onto the overseas highway the next morning.
Deliberately didn't want somewhere near the beach, as it would make us think what are we missing, and an overnight simply wouldn't do the city proper any justice.
