I have never been asked for my Passport and never has any motel/hotel asked to retain it. If they ask to see ID I use my driving licence. Lets be honest if they are 'picking up' on an accent an Expat Brit (or other Nationality) could check into a Disney Hotel and wouldn't even have their Passport with them and would just show their US driving licence. I have no intention of going to Europe and I do know certain Countries supply guests details to the local Police. We stayed at POFQ, the contemporary and HRH this summer and each of them asked to see our passports, none of them asked to keep them!

Did they specifically say passports or Photo ID?

I'm gobsmacked if they said passports as in 50 trips to Florida we have never been asked.

I'm sure the HRH asked for passports, but I can't remember at Disney to be honest. I don't have a driving licence so I automatically hand over my passport as so used to doing so when travelling in Europe. When my parents owned a timeshare in the canaries we always had to hand our passports in for 24 hours, and did the same in Lanzarote in 2017 too.

When I say hand over, I mean I just hand it to them, they have a quick scan at the name so it matches the booking and they hand it back. They don�t go off with it or anything!

I've always just showed my passport at Disney check-in, they've never wanted to take it away even to copy or anything. And every hotel I've stayed in this year has asked for ID at check in so I just have my passport prepared to show when I check in.

I would have a huge argument with anyone who tries to take my passport away from me to keep! My passport stays in my possession...

I would say before online check-in I can't remember as it was quite a few years ago.

I always check in online but go to the desk for bands and room number. It has only been the last 2 trips and I was quite surprised the first time.
