I had written off the train for next Easter - but looks like it is only closed for a month

Getting mixed information online on how long this will be closed. It was going to be until summer 2019 but wdwmagic say early Jan 2019!

Same here for May! If this is the case then I will be very happy as love the train and forgot to go on it in September when we were there (only in MK for a few hours and had forgotten it was closing). Hopefully this is the case and it will reopen by the time we next go

As it says on the DIBB's refurb page:

"This list is updated from the official Disney WDW refurbishment list and is checked and updated daily".

Therefore, according to Disney, the railroad is due to reopen on the 6th January 2019. (Note that the date is not fixed in stone and can change between now and then).

I was under the impression it was Closing for the construction of tron. Must be missinformed or maybe that closure may be at a later date.

Disney announced this morning that the train will be temporarily suspended for tron construction. So I assume it'll be reopening just before the 50th aniv. The train will be static at the main street station for this time for photo ops according to the article.

We were out there on its last day before closing for the Tron work and spent a lot of time talking to the CMs. I love the train and rode the last circuit before it shut and it was one of the saddest and most fun things I have ever done. CMs were crying, I was crying and giving out hugs. I was told that it is shutting between 1- 3 years. The tracks between Fantasyland and Main Street are being pulled (have been pulled up now) due to Tron construction. The behind the steam train tour is still happening on selected dares for a short while but you walk to Fantasyland to pick up the tour to get to the Roundhouse instead of Main Street. The walkway/cut through from Tomorrowland that goes past the tracks is also closed for the foreseeable future. I went to see Lille Belle on our last day as she is in Main Street Station. It is lovely to be able to photograph her without lots of people being around
