My parents are adults and have made their own decisions. I care greatly so that’s extremely rude of you! You have no idea how much I care and the lengths we have gone to! My dad cares about dying and never seeing his grandkids again!
I think 5 days of education at 7 (just turned 7) is hardly going to affect their whole life

I wish I’d never posted. I’ve never met so many rude and judgemental people in my life! You may not agree, you may think I am wrong but you can be respectful and disagree. I would never judge someone who had an opposing view to me, and I would not be rude to that person by shouting incorrect facts about shopping and saying I don’t care about parents or education. Not once have I said that! I am trying to balance my dads mental health, risk factors, education and family time. So many judgments and incorrect assumptions
I hope you guys don’t face similar in the future but thanks anyway!

One academy group has proposed this and the DfE vetoed it.
My school in tier 2 sent 78 kids home on Thursday, all those children have to isolate now for 2 weeks. I can understand wanting to avoid the risk of children having to isolate, all those people saying don't go out then, the risk of having to isolate if you've gone shopping is far lower than if you're going to school. There's a petition here petition.parliament.uk/petitions/549015 The government on one hand are saying we can see family, but on the other forcing schools to stay open will mean lots of children and school staff will spend the Christmas break having to isolate. We're not planning on seeing anyone, but if we're not even able to leave the house over the holidays it'll be miserable. |

I think people are being very harsh on the OP. I teach at a private school we break up on the 11th December anyway.
I can totally empathise with people worried about missing Christmas, and indeed the whole holiday, if the bubble breaks and the child has to isolate. We aren’t planning on having a Christmas bubble- my Mum and in-laws have decided the risk is still too great (even though all 4 of us have just had COVID and we could isolate for the 2 weeks run up) but I’m planning a couple of days of long isolated walks (in the same tier we live in) and I really hope I don’t need to isolate. After a hard term I need some fresh air and space, if the worst comes to the worst I’ll still have a week but totally understand the worry about having to isolate for the whole of the holidays. We have the situation in my school where some children isolated for 2 weeks, back one day and then had to isolate again. So tough for them.

You asked folks opinions, so what do you expect, just positive “ you are so right” comments?
This is what we would do if we were in your position: We would wait until the vaccine was distributed and we were all vaccinated, then have a big party. That way we know that the “Christmas Day” celebrations we were going to have didn’t turn out to be the last one with our parents still around. That may read as an overreaction, but it is a possibility. No judgement on taking kids out of school, nothing like that, just based on the risk of passing the virus. Again I stress that this is what we would do as a family, no reflection on your plans. Edited at 12:20 PM. |

Why do you believe that you are the only person with this dilemma, we all in our own way have to make choices about mental health, education etc you are not alone in this.
However, some people make different choices, they are not wrong nor are you, honestly if you post questions like this you will get answers. |

Once again! Read my post I explicitly stated I did not expect people to agree with me or to say at right but there is a way of having an opposite opinion without being rude and judgemental. Your post shows clearly you didn’t read what I said. I do not expect people to agree but do disagree with respect!

I never said I was the only person - where did I state that? In fact I said many were thinking the same. Happy to have answers and opposites but it’s the way people have phrased it

I don’t understand why the child was tested either.
Testing is only meant to be carried out if you’re displaying symptoms. My son developed symptoms and was tested. All of us in isolation waiting his results. They came back positive. We all stayed in isolation. Hubby developed symptoms 4 days after son. Ambulance sent due to breathing difficulties. They told him to get tested ASAP, but the rest of us not to, just carry on isolating. We didn’t develop symptoms and we’ve all just come out of isolation a couple of days ago. Testing when there are no symptoms is a waste of resources, that’s what we’ve been told. Not aimed at you OP, I just wonder if they lied to get a test? As when booking one you’re meant to meet the criteria 🤔
