Walmart/Publix bags
Do you have to pay for plastic bags? we didn't last year but wondered if it had changed yet, was thinking of taking a couple of re-usable bags if you have to pay.

No charge at Publix when we went at Christmas but we prefer to use our own as the huge number of plastic bags they give you is shocking; they tend to pack the bag for you whether their bag or your own.
Hopefully charging for grocery bags is on the way in Florida as is in other states already as the number of plastic bags given out is awful! Some supermarkets there give a very small discount if you use your own & ask if you want it or would like to donate it to a food bank type charity. I always pick up a new reusable bag or two in Publix each trip; they’re fab designs 😃 Edited at 05:12 PM. |

I have a large Walmart bag which was 99c and has lasted ages, we will be taking some fold up ones this year
I rolled up all the bags we were given on our holiday last September and we have just used them all up in our small pedal bins over 60 bags over a 14 day holiday |

When we were last in Florida a couple of years ago they still very much packed 2 or 3 items per bag. DH decided to keep them all to bring home but unfortunately left them bagged up a little too close to the bin and the cleaner took them. He was most dischuffed. (I've never written dischuffed before, it looks odd, I had to google to check the spelling. Spellcheck doesn't like it )

Most stores will take plastic bags back to be recycled.
They don't have to be from the store. These bags should not be put in home recycle bins-they clog up the sorting machinery if mixed with general recycles. I went to get groceries yesterday. I have filled the child seat and somehow the bagger used 4 bags. I stopped and consolidated and recycled the extra bags before leaving the store. I think some stores teach baggers not to mix item types, so one bar of soap may get it's own bag, fruit and veg another, and a third for a piece of fruit. |

I always take my own Publix bags, like was said, they do great designs, this is my favourite, we got them a couple of years ago and use them here and in Orlando, still as good as new. I got some lovely Christmas ones this year too.

Thank you all, we usually bring the plastic bags back and use in the rubbish bin here. Perhaps buy a couple of re-usable ones whilst out there makes it nicer when you go shopping here.
