DH had a massive heart attack in March last year, he had just turned 50 yeras old. We went to Orlando in August/September. He too was told not to swim by the cardiac rehab team.
The heat was a big factor for DH as he had been told to keep out of high density heat or cold. We made sure we were out early and popped him anywhere there was air con! He did struggle, however some of the meds he is on also cause him to be breathless so that added to his fatigue too.
He didn't do things like rock and roller and Everest just to be on the safe side. The doctor was happy for him to fly 6 months post heart attack, however we were 5 and a half months, he was given the all clear anyway.
DH took it easy and we made him take it easy too. It is very scary for the person who has the heart attack to try to feel normal, DH became very depressed for a while but he has come through the other side He said that looking at his own mortality scared him, and this is one of the things that made him feel down.
The shock for the rest of our family was awful, I was recovering from a stroke, it made both our DS's also go into depression and both have been to see doctors and have had support.
Both DH and I have had an awful couple of years, but we are both here breathing in and out and determined to enjoy every single day we are doing so!
Hope you are feeling much better soon, take it easy and rest as much as you can.

Jane xx

OH had a MI last February along with a cardiac arrest . He had two stents fitted in one artery. We had a holiday booked to Vegas and a cruise from Orlando for the September.

He was back at work within ten weeks - Groundworker foreman so a manual job and has pretty much been back to normal. He’s much more tired than he used to be but he is convinced that’s down to the statins as when he’s been off them for a few weeks he feels great.

Can I ask where you get insurance? We were lucky last year as already had insurance in place prior to his HA.

Everyone copes differently so don’t measure yourself against others. Take time to digest what has happened but believe you can still do what makes you happy - you’ve been given another chance .

We also had insurance in place prior to DH’s heart attack for WDW but paid £109 out with boots for more advanced insurance, as the one we had was with our bank account.

DH also has a very physical job he is a tail lift engineer- he fixes the tail lifts on lorries, ambulances etc so very heavy work and very long hours as he is a mobile engineer.

Hope you can get insurance sorted (forgot to say I went through TopCashback and got a bit back)

Jane 😊

Its completely understandable to feel down, must be really difficult to make life changes. Good luck x
Thank you so much, the replies on here have made a difference, we may spend some more time down in Clearwater x

My partners Dad had a heart attack 3 years ago. He's 67 and still works most days as he's self employeed, the days he isn't working he's either cycling or playing golf. As long as he takes his time and knows his limits he's good to go on anything.

I am also a member of the heart attack club. I had one 2.5 years ago. I have found (and checked with my doc - it is common) that because I had a minor attack in a narrow blood vessel and no stents/bypass etc that things did not "spring back to normal" -

being medically managed can take a very long time to balance the medications correctly - to get that balance between being alive and feeling alive.

Everyone recovers differently. What you can do will depend on what procedures you have had done and how long has passed.
