Extra Magic Hours

We have 2 nights onsite for our trip next year, and I would like to make use of the extra magic hours. I haven't stated onsite since 2014 and I don't really remember how it works as we let my auntie take charge.

Do the hours/ parks change and if so how often? How far in advance can you plan your visit if you want to make use of EMH.

As far as I know there is EMH in at least one park every day, could be morning or evening. The days they are held on are relatively reliable and are released about six months in advance, but there can be changes to the schedule much closer to the time as well.

The morning EMH are typically at AK Monday and Saturday, Epcot Thursday, MK Friday and HS Sunday. Evening EMH are typically Epcot Tuesday and MK on Wednesday. As I mention, it can change though, for example at the moment the HS EMH are in the evening rather than the morning.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "how it works". The parks are open, onsite guests can go in, I think some parts of the parks may not be open in the morning. Fastpasses are not in use during EMH.

I have personally never bothered going to an EMH, my DH went to an evening one at MK once and it was awful, completely packed. However we normally do longer onsite, I think it could be a good idea for a short onsite stay.

Thank you for this, it's really helpful. I just meant I wasn't sure how it works, as I know some rides or attractions can be restricted.

As we don't have many onsite dates we can only book most from 30 days, so may miss out on some good FP. So I just want to make use of the EMH on some of the attractions that we may not get FP for

You may want to read the DIBB's guidebook page about EMH. It contains some useful info, including which attractions are open during EMH:
