Mmm, he announced a 2021 retirement so something has kicked off.
Wonder what?
It will be public news tomorrow I expect!

Just seems a bit random.

Might be nothing to it at all though. Time will tell.

Could be a health issue? In which case I wish him well. These top Execs live life in the fast lane sadly and get burn out.

I don't really like the idea of Chapek as the new CEO...

Hmmmm it’s rather interesting. Chapek was not being groomed for the top job, they were looking elsewhere. He’s an interesting choice, very marmite. We shall see what the next few days bring but I’d imagine any real issues will be buried incredibly deep. They don’t like to show weakness in their top billings. When Iger was being groomed as Eisners replacement it was not a happy place to be. I remember the transition well and all the permanent CMs were bricking it. I was glad to just be doing a summer program back then 😂

He’s said he was going to retire a couple of times in the past. I think the last time he said he was going to retire in 2018. So it’s not entirely a surprise, although it is a bit sudden.

He will still be executive chairman until 2021 so it’s not like he’s leaving the company or stopping work or anything.

Chapek was named as one of his potential successors, as mentioned in this article from last year:

Edited at 11:30 PM. Reason: Autocorrect changed Chapek to Chapel
