Corona Virus - Sending Reporters to Affected Area

Is it me or does it seem a bit stupid to send reporters to origin of this virus? The streets are empty so we aren't seeing anything. Unless they plan to keep the reporters there until either a vaccine is found or the virus is gone, surely you are just increasing the risk of it spreading. Honestly don't get this need to constantly report from the scene

Totally agree. I think the area needs to be quarantined. Not letting people go or leave. They can make places a no go zone when they want to. Visitors to the country could also be bringing other germs in so not helping those there.

Surely there's someone in the area already that can provide a news story without risking anyone else.

Whole provinces have already been quarantined and the reporters have been told that if they enter they are not going to be allowed to leave until the lock down is lifted.

So they have already done all of this.

China is one of the few countries on the world that could achieve this level of lock down.

Felt very sorry for an Australian visitor interviewed on the radio this morning. She’s trapped in Wuhan after visiting friends for New Year, is due back at work on Monday and her essential medication runs out next week as she only brought enough for a delay of a few days.

Why is this any different from sending journalists to a war zone?

Journalists do not merely report on the incident but on the Government's response to the matter, thus keeping the world informed and holding that Government to account. Let's be honest, most Governments are economically with the truth, having journalists on the ground shines a light on the truth and helps keep the focus on the people who need help.

really, you are going to quote a disabled war reporter and compare that with sending people to infected zones

Of course, War reporters get injured and you know exactly what I meant

Yes, I am.

There is always risks with reporting in a dangerous arena. They go into war zones, attend political events and go to health outbreaks including SARS, Ebola and now the Chinese coronavirus with the knowledge that they are putting themselves at risk.

If they do not go, we are unlikely to discover the truth of what has, is and may happen.

Having journalists in Wuhan and other parts of China will not spread the virus worldwide, that has happened, which is why reporters have been dispatched all over the globe to inform the public of the spread and outcome of this virus.
