Definitely especially in 1963 when the sea froze over where I lived in Kent.

Remember trying to play football on the frozen canal was fun (or so we thought) reckless teenagers 😂

Yes there's a photo of me in one of those. When DD was a baby her Nana knitted her some knickers!

No, wasn't born then but I do remember having knitted mittens attached by a long length of wool. You threaded the wool through each arm so you wouldn't lose your mittens. Great idea. Probably not allowed now due to H&S

Eee imagine them surviving it today!🤣🤣

And yes mum would knit those for us as well.
Dad holding a sheet of newspaper in front of the fire to try and get it going, it was like the start of Bonanza 😂

I wasn’t born in 63 but I can remember having a balaclava when I was in infant school (early 70s). Looked horrid but wonderful for keeping out the cold

My mum knit one for my brother in about 1965 and I knit one for my son some 30 years later.

It was definitely a boys' hat. I had a woolly helmet which tied under my chin (back in the days when I only had one chin!)

Definitely had one in the 60s. I think my mother knitted it for me.
