Do DVC owners really think we will get there during 2021

I sincerely hope we do, but I’m not so sure...
Determined not to sell as clearly this won’t go on for ever, but it’s tough to see an end to it...
Any thoughts?

I was very pessimistic of any foreign holidays in 2020 and was surprised by the optimism of many on the Dibb when I couldn’t see it being likely / possible. But I was wrong for some of Europe and a bit further afield, so I have been feeling very positive that foreign travel would restart after Easter 2021 - or a bit later maybe. Still wasn’t sure about the US though I have to say, but I thought a trip planned for October 21 would most likely be ok. Plus you know, vaccine roll outs making things better and so forth.

I explain this in a bit of painful detail to demonstrate that I’d not been very optimistic last year (and was broadly correct to feel that way) but that my optimism was growing.

Now I’m not so sure. News from Spain saying summer tourism is unlikely to begin until late summer? Not encouraging at all.

I hope things do become clearer soon.

I only have 112 points I MUST use this UY and will rent them out if I have to so my risk is pretty low compared to others. That notwithstanding I’d hate to lose them.

No I don't, not when you look at the situation we're in now. I think foreign travel will be the last thing to open up and I'm surprised at the level of optimism on the Dibb. Perhaps it's burying your head in the sand to avoid the bigger picture or perhaps people just need something to look forward to, some light at the end of the tunnel. I'm resigned to summer 2022 at the earliest.

Honestly, no, I've never thought it certain that we'd be travelling this year, hence booked our October trip to make it very easy to change the flights and rent the reservation.

I'm hesitantly hopeful as can't let go of it yet, but when I'm being realistic, I don't think we'll be going.

I’m going to remain optimistic for my October booking, I believe both the UK and the US are committed to rolling out the vaccine as quickly as possible and once the majority of people are vaccinated I believe we should be able to travel with minimal restrictions.

I think we will be going in December, this is not ‘burying head in the sand’ as suggested, but after assessment of what we can see happening and vaccines. Although things of course can change. Had it not been for these variants discovered December I’d have said summer was very likely.

I’m still hopeful for summer but not as much as December.

I think it’s too early to make any call with great certainty, to do so is folly. We may see people disappointed by premature cancellation. Yes I said cancellation.

I think we could see country bubbles- vaccinated countries closing borders to outside but allowing intra country travel within. We and US will have all adults who want it vaccinated by early summer hopefully.

I'm hopeful but can see both trips being off the cards. I've had about enough of the Covid threads, I'm hitting the ignore button more and more as there are too many revelling in the doom mongering, deliberately stirring the pot.

Got Aug/Sep 2021 and Nov/Dec 2021 booked with DVC points and BA flydrives. Our use year is Dec so we have up to July 31st to cancel Aug/Sept and bank those points into next year. We will have a few points that we'll need to sell, the Facebook group will hover those up in minutes - guaranteed, we've already had enquiries from some who rented off us in 2020.

The Nov/Dec trip can be pushed back all the way to Nov 31st 2022 if necessary or banked into 2023.

The flights currently only able to push to April 30th 2022 but if the travel restrictions continue then I'd expect that to move accordingly.

This will be over at some point, not selling as this was a long term 'investment'.

If you have a fly drive you are protected by the Package Travel Regs. They basically have to get you there or have to refund you. So if they can’t get you on your package you are due a full refund.

Therefore if they don’t push that date back you will be better just letting them cancel you and getting a refund.

We have two booked with them, one is a deposit only of £300 but on the other we have paid over £2k so come next Christmas if it looks like that 2k is not going ahead and they haven’t given until the end of 2022 to use the voucher, I will just let them cancel.

Much talk about renting a reservation? How would I do that?
