I was around in the 70's and 80's. Maybe I lived under a bush but in my earlier years dont remember any one mentioning either gay men or woman. We had a male cousin who went to Canada to live, and he lived with a male housemate. I remember a family member saying he was "queer" but didnt know what it meant other than she thought he was a bit odd! It saddens me what gay men and women must have had to go through. I was shocked at the treatment that guy received in hospital. I hope that most gay people are accepted with open arms in our society now. My niece was married to a guy, then divorced. She has recently come out as gay and has a wonderful partner. I am so proud of her. Dont think it is going to happen now, but my countdown is a trip home to be at her wedding.
I am looking forward to the next episodes in the series. |

That is such a kind and spirited post - as a queer/gay man can I say thank you 🙏 I wish we were more accepted (as many posts on here prove we are in some quarters but certainly not all ) but times are changing, the AIDS time in the 80’s/90’s were some of the worst and with Section 28 (that comes into play later in the series too ) but posts like yours really are wonderful. Thank you again xx |

I haven’t read this whole thread as I didn’t want to see any spoilers- thought the first episode was really good, uplifting to see people being true to themselves and heartbreaking to see the beginning of the aids epidemic.
My grown up daughter is gay, and while this show (so far) concentrates on men, I’m so glad we live in a more accepting world. I know it’s still not perfect, more so in some areas than others, I just can’t imagine the distress faced on a daily basis otherwise... |

We are only about to start episode four but I think it is a wonderful piece of television so well acted, and such a poignant portrayal of the struggles gay people faced at the time. It definitely deserves awards.

I watched the first episode with my gay son, we throughly enjoyed it. He couldn't believe the way people were 40 years ago and how unacceptable being gay was. I didn't know anyone gay when I was growing up and didn't realise then that families would disown their own children for being gay. Thankfully society has wised up, though there still are some ignorant people out there. When anyone asks me about my children , I always say I have 3 children, one of each, a boy, a girl and a gay. Love them all unconditional.

Excited about Disney
|
It has been a longtime since I have sat down and binge watched any telly. I have just finished episode 3 and I am in bits. This is the best thing I have watched in a while. I was born in the 70's so I am loving the soundtrack. It is hard to imagine the struggles back then as I was always brought up to love and accept everyone x

I know I mentioned in an earlier post about the film Pride - the music is great in that too .Its based on true events about an alliance between gay activists and Welsh Miners during the strike .Worth a watch .
