Norfolk

We've just booked a cottage in Norfolk for May half term. It's in a small village a few miles south of Norwich (Bergh Apton). It's a part of the country we've not been to before and I know very little about! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for days out, places to visit, walks etc. Preferably something for all ages as the kids are 11 and 9 and my parents are coming too.

If the weathers good we'll probably have a day at the beach but will also need to do stuff to appeal to my parents too - exploring nice villages/towns, National Trust places etc. Ideally we don't want to be driving more than an hour.

If anyone knows the area we're staying in, any recommendations for nice pubs/restaurants would also be appreciated.

You are very close to the broads, wroxham , potterheim etc worth goggling the beaches as some near there you will see seals etc. Norwich is a lovely city with lots of lanes, cool shops and a street food market, there is loads to do!

Bewilderwood is a good day out for kids although your two may be a little old for the "story" behind it but they'll probably still love all the climbing and zip wires etc.

Horsey is where the seals can be found and is a lovely beach.

Norfolk is beautiful. You'll love it.

Well... you are 20 minutes away from my table tennis club if you are at a lose end one evening - all abilities catered for! PM me if interested.

If you come to Norwich, you the University Sports Park is good for activities (especially if a rainy day!) - swimming, climbing wall, racket sports..and a nice lake to walk around (if not raining!).

While Norwich has a couple of shopping malls like any city, they also have a market and lanes of unique shops, and the castle is worth a visit.

Wroxham is worth a visit, Wroxham Barns is a farm with lots to do, as well as the broads, shops.

The beaches are nicer if you head to Suffolk - Aldeburgh and Southwould (Adnams Brewery!) especially... where as Yarmouth and Lowestoft have lots of attractions for the kids.

Fairhaven woodland and water gardens are lovely.
Salhouse broads are nice for a walk.
You can hire boats on the broads.
Some lovely beaches - Horsey beach you can see the seals and a walk through the dunse takes you to Horsey windpump.
Great Yarmouth has all the arcades and plenty going on. Not sure if their summer circus will have started yet though.

Zaks American diners are good for food - theres 2 in Norwich, 1 in poringland (closest to you probs) and 1 in thetford.

Holkholm beach is really nice and binham priory a nice walk around. Plenty to see and do. have fun.

My beautiful part of the uk. Huge big open sky's and the stunning broads to explore. Blickling hall national trust property, beautiful. Sheringham park nice for a family walk. A cheesy slightly tacky walk along Yarmouth seafront a visit to joyland and the pleasurebeach a must. Yarmouth a bit rough round the edges😂 As said Holt Wells Cromer West Runton Blakeney all worth a look. Norfolk is often overlooked but it's beautiful.

A lot of good stuff already been posted. Wroxham is great to watch the boats and my favourite on a nice day is Horning. Some great waterside pubs where families are welcome.

If you like steam railways you've got the Mid Norfolk Railway from Dereham to Wymondham (pronounced Wyndam), the North Norfolk Railway from Sheringham to Holt and lastly my favourite, the Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham to Wroxham. The first two are full size railways but the Bure Valley is a 15 inch narrow gauge line. There's also the East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville, just off the main road from Norwich to Lowestoft. This place has buses, a working tramway and working trolley buses.
