A car would be cheaper if you intend to go off strip. We usually hire for a few days then return it. A must to see Valley of Fire, Red Rock, Lake Mead GC, etc.
Was reading about your planned Canada/USA trip. Sounds amazing. So jealous Hope you have a wonderful time. |

A car is a must for us in Vegas , have one every time give sis so much freedom plus if your on a budget it's far cheaper to eat and shop off strip . Off strip buffets for example are half the cost of onstrip.
But then is stopping off strip . We stop at South Point takes me less than 10'mins to get to the strip from there . Free parking and resort fee half the price . And the hotel so much cheaper i get a lovely hotel for half the cost of a average strip hotel . So there are plenty of ways to do Vegas a bit cheaper if you want to . |

We went for 5 nights last October half term as we were restricted and left our 14 year old with grandparents in UK. We didn't hire a car as we didn't feel we needed one. We just wanted to explore the strip, hotels and all it had to offer. 5 nights / 6 days was a short trip but it was still a fantastic time and we packed a lot in just staying on the strip but in reality doesnt cratch the surface. We are going back in August for a few more days at the end of our road trip with our 15 year old as we loved it so much. If I was going for longer I would hire a car. As a first time trip, without using a car worked for us.
It's was great to go even for a few days although the Jetlag was a killer !

Sounds like exactly what we're intending! I might try and get a car for 1 or 2 days though just to explore Grand Canyon and Hoover dam on our own schedule. Apart from that I'm happy to just kick around the strip I think!

Think you will love it. You wont need a car to kick around the strip. We are going in September and not hiring one.

We are in Vegas now, since last Saturday and the weather has been crazy hot. We were here 4-7 July last year and it wasn't as hot as its been this week. The first few days it was 115 with winds that were like a red hot fan. I'll b honest and say it did zap our energy those first few days while your acclimatising anyway and we were exhausted. It has cooled a little the last few days and winds have dropped, but right now it is still 43deg outside and that's at 5:45pm. We wanted to do a bit pool time this week (it's our 3rd time here and we've done all the touristy things previously) but with the heat, we've managed the pool 3times,once from around 6-9pm as sun was setting so we were in the shade and twice from 8am-10am,as that's the only time we could bare to sit in it while it was <40 degrees.
We both said we wouldn't come this time of year again, just too unbearably hot and it has stopped us enjoying strolls down the strip as we normally would, even at night it's still high 30s,so think very carefully about when you come. Next time we visit it will be out of summer season definitely. I've had to buy new sandals while I was here (such a chore) as two pairs of mine literally melted with the heat and the glue holding them together so the fell apart, crazy stuff! We've never had a car while in Vegas, we always stay on strip or walking distance to it. We like the freedom of having a beer or cocktail whenever we want and not have to think about who is driving. Uber has been our friend ALOT this week when it's been too hot to walk. Each time has only cost around $8,so it's very cheap and easy if your at one end of the strip and want to get to the other quickly without walking in the heat. If I was staying further away from strip then yes we'd get a car, but no need if your on or near the strip. Edited at 02:09 AM. |

Yes been reading about crazy temperatures on a Vegas forum. Even those who usually go this time of year saying how hot it is. Hope it cools down a bit for you. Did you know you can get $1 beers at Casino Royale? We love Uber and use it as well, and don't have a car. Have fun.

We just noticed the $1beer sign today actually when walking past casino royale, we've been making the most of the drinks in the casinos it's a beautiful night tonight, dropped to 33 at 10pm,the coolest it's been so nice night. We leave tomorrow, had a fantastic week, we still love Vegas and after our 3rd trip, very busy tonight gearing up for 4th July weekend celebrations so we leaving just at the right time before it gets even crazier!

You need to make use of the drinks in the casinos in that heat of course . We stay at Mirage and pop into Casino Royal for a nice cold beer on the way back. Just to cool down of course! Guess they will have fireworks and yes be very crazy for next few days. Safe journey home.

$1 beers?! Sounds good to me!
I expect it'll be hot but dates are fixed - I can't move my birthday after all! Fingers crossed it won't be quite that hot this time next year!
