I'd say food was at least 70% of our holiday. I'm currently planning a 30 stop food tour of New York at the moment, I can't WAIT!

San Francisco - The Elite Cafe - (the word cafe doesn't do it justice) Fillmore Street (between Callifornia and Pine) -

Monterey Bay sardines on crostini with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a touch of tapenade:

Scallops with tiny crisp brussel sprouts and roasted grapes with a balsamic reduction reduction:

Papardella pasta (wide ribbons) with a braised beef and smoked tomatoes – ( think rich tomatoes and bonfires) – absolute heaven:

Blueberry bread with lemon ice cream. These flavours compliment each other so well.

A half bottle of Ramey chardonnay (Russian River Valley 2007) completed the meal.

if you're planning on it for your first evening I recommend a reservation. We waited over an hour for a table in the end and didn't eat until 9pm, I don't think we'd have lasted this long on a first night!

Thanks for the tip - we arrive in SF at 1.30pm so I was thinking 5-6pm for dinner but it is a Friday night so probably best to book as you say !

How far in advance do we need to book?
