After a lot of consideration and umming & ahhing we finally went for the 'Sir Francis Drake' for our October trip. LastMinute had a good price on it as a secret hotel. Would have preferred to be based at Fisherman's Wharf but the prices were just too high for the same quality of hotel.

Ouch! We were hoping for £100 a night for all our West Coast hotels...just about managed it for Anaheim/Vegas/Hawaii but SF prices are so high. Glad it's the shortest part of our trip!

We stayed at Grant Plaza Hotel in Chinatown and quite close to Union Square. Check in Thursday, check out Monday.

Cost was about £550 for the 4 nights. We had a party of 5 which seems to limit options when searching for hotels.

Price included in/out parking at a parking garage a few minutes walk away towards Union Square.

Hotel was basic but clean and we would stay there again. We had a large room on the 6th (top) floor although we didn't spend a lot of time in it.

Another vote for the Tuscan.. ideal spot for the Open top bus tour as the #1 stop is a street away .. nice double rooms... not noisy easy to walk to Fishermans Wharf and Bouduin bakery and good price. Breakfast just popped round to I Hop round the corner...

We stayed at the airport at Villa Montes in San Bruno. There were other hotels on the waterfront and prices definitely cheaper, and free parking. We used the car, but I also thought about the mall car park and then use the tram. hotel was nice, but some noise from airport and railway.

We've booked the Chelsea Motor Inn on Lombard Street, really nice area, good reviews on TA, 20min walk or very short bus to Fishermans Wharf! £450 for 3nts which I'm very happy with
