When did they stop reservations at Finnegans on an event night?

Must be recent.

The advice I would give you is, have a lay in, day off, chill by the pool & get to Universal for 4:30 - 5:00pm & go to the stay & scream zone, you get a hour to yourselves before the main gates open (in that time we did 3 houses!)

The first time we did it, we met up with some friends & did IOA, followed by HHN by 10:30 (after being at IOA for 8:30am) we were cream cracked!
To add to the above post there are usually 3 Stay and Scream zones - Simpsons, Finnegans and Hello Kitty area. They will release you from these prior to the gates opening - normally around 15 minutes before - which will give you a heads start. If you choose the Simpsons area for example you will easily get 3, maybe 4, houses done as they direct you towards the back of the park.
If Ghostbusters or Stranger Things are your preference then I would advise Finnegans.

Last year I think, people started getting their reservations for Finnigans at about 3pm so they just fill it up sooner so now they scan your HHN as you arrive after then and you can stay.

However universal finally cottoned on to the fact people want to eat and drink in that wait time, so the Finnigans area now covers some outside eating trucks and seating by the Monster Cafe, so less need for Finnigans

At the Simpsons they open the whole eating area. Much better as everyone can grab something and Universal make more money

We're doing Hollywood this year having only ever done Orlando before. I've been reading up a lot and from what I have read, the budget for Orlando is much bigger than the Hollywood event. Still excited to compare the two events but we're planning to return to Orlando for the 30th Anniversary on 2020.

We're doing all four HHN locations this year.
Starting in Singapore we then move onto Osaka, Japan. After that it's Hollywood before finishing with Orlando.
They all look totally different, and each park has unique aspects to it that are exciting - for example Japan HHN is included with the price of your park entrance and they start to open up the Houses at 10am. Loads to look forward to, and it will be cool to experience the differences after 10 years of Orlando HHN.

Wow! Would love to read a trip report or something similar from you. It would be so interesting to have a single year's events compared across all 4 sites.
