As of August this year, they were still wet leasing on the Miami to LGW route. That would normally be a B787

The poster did mix the 787 and 737 in the post, but the issues with the 787 engines are not over. There are now ongoing problems of a similar nature (turbine blades) with the newer Trent 1000 TEN engines, which Norwegian also uses on its 787s.
These issues are not grounding the aircraft in the same way, because the blades do not all need to be replaced, but the maintenance cycles have been shortened significantly to ensure frequent checks, which is impacting on the operational availability of the 787s. As mentioned above, Norwegian is still leasing aircraft. More generally. Norwegian has asked to extend the payment dates for two unsecured bonds, and is in part putting up its Gatwick slots for security. Those slots are likely worth more than the bonds. I bet the big airlines like BA and Virgin love when these rumours go around, must push a lot of business their way and help to keep their prices up.

It’s not much use to bury your grad and hope for the best. When travel companies are reporting as is the Finabcial Times, that they are in financial issues again, such as this article from Conde Nast yesterday,
cntraveler/story/nor...oid-bankruptcy Just name sure you have end user failure insurance. Yes, you can get your money back, but by then your prices for comparable may be much higher. Norweigen have had a tsunami of bad luck, from 787 engine issues which has cost them to wet lease replacement aircraft, the loss of their 787 max planes, tge loss of their MD, then the targeting of their transatlantic routes by the likes of BA ( Fort Lauderdale, put in to take from norweigen, once norweigen pulled out and went back to Miami, so did BA) Freddie laker skytrain comes to mind. They gave pulled all Dublin flights and many others, due to both the loss of aircraft, but also they expanded too rapidly, paying Peter by robbing Paul. Now their only financial option is to take out loans on their Gatwick slits, and the winter lie season is ahead. Frances second largest airline Agike Azure, is also close to bankruptcy it’s a tough tine for smaller airlines. . Personally, I wouldn’t book with them, not just for their financial issues, but the cost for premium us quite high and doesn’t compare with line price Business lie flat seats. I father Mint will be starting London to New York flughts, tgat will be interesting

I don’t think anyone is scare mongering. I believe the facts are that they are in trouble and they need some more cash to get out of it. They may well get this cash - but they may not.
The decision to book with them is a personal one based on risk. If booking with them the best advice is to de-risk it by paying with credit card and obtaining end supplier failure travel insurance. The issues they are going through are fact not rumours. The consequences of those issues are rumours and guess work. |
