DVLA Number

Do we need this to pick up car in California?

I think we were just asked for our card licences in Boston and nothing else. Is it the same in Los Angeles?

I just gave my DL at San Fran airport. Not sure what a DVLA number is.

No, only need the DVLA code when renting in UK (it’s so the rental company can check whether you have any points on your licence).

You don't need a DVLA code anywhere- I rent a lot in UK and never been asked here either.
A failed system, so impractical the hire companies abandoned the idea as they would lose too much business.

Not needed for the US. You can get the code with a few clicks if you really want to but you won't be asked for it.

Thanks for your replies, I had assumed as much, but am getting the pre-holidays doubts as it fast approaches.
