Oh and all booked with no passport info (will sort this in a the next few weeks for the kids)
I’m pleased for you that you’ve booked but wow that’s a lot. These dates were £1000 cheaper last week for same party/car.

Yipes! Another hike in our prices (lgw-tpa Fri 24/7- Weds 12/8). Here's what's happened (Average BA quote for 4 adults with Ford Edge):

2 weeks ago - £687 (based on Weds 5th)
1 week ago - £828 (car discount dropped)
Today - £964 (outbound prices hiked. Inbound unchanged)

I do hope this is hiking before the sale . Otherwise it'll be a long wait until the Christmas sales!

Funkymoover - apologies if my post above appeared a little negative. It wasn’t intended to be. I raised an eyebrow given how much this fly drive was the week prior and that you paid £140 shy of £4000 - If I could offer a little tip. Hopefully you only paid your deposit. I could almost guarantee you will shave hundreds of pounds of this price in the future to the point where it will probably be cost effective to loose your deposit and re-book at a lower cost and still be far better off.

Not many days left of August. Fingers crossed the sale starts in the next few days and that it’s a good one. 🤞🏻

A recent and very large hike in prices could indeed indicate so although as someone else mentioned, BA ‘could’ delay given their recent problems.

We booked our BA flydrive on 19th September 2018
27/07/19 Manchester, Heathrow, Miami
17/08/19 Miami, Heathrow, Manchester
Car group V. Chrysler Pacifica
£2853 - £300 deposit. (Unfortunately we had to cancel due to ill health)
Our friends booked the same deal. When they returned the car the voucher showed just under $1000 just for car hire. Flights must have been very cheap.

Praying for something similar for next year.

Bit of contingency planning here in case BA don't drop the price of car hire in the sales and I end up booking flights separately. I'm probably going to book via BA direct. But I did a search on Skyscanner just now and got a 'low' price for lgw-tpa with a link to 'lastminute.com'.

It's about £100pp less for the equivalent BA direct booking (both quotes excl baggage). However, it doesn't include baggage option. So few questions:

1. Would you book via skyscanner to lastminute.com? Any drawbacks?

2. At what stage would I add in baggage? Would I do this via last minute.com and do they hike the price?

3. Why on earth don't these comparison sites include an option to quote with baggage?

Just thinking...

I will be glad when this bit is over. It's not the fun bit!

Do you think you could get away without adding baggage as BA's hand baggage weight limit is 23kg although, admittedly, the baggage size is fairly compact?

We did do that once on a trip to Greece but we tend to carry more to Florida. I may have to think about this more maybe do some packing testing this weekend! Maybe I could just do one in the hold and rest hand. Or is it all or nothing with BA? Hmmmm.

Hi, I have often booked via a 3rd party as they have been cheaper than the airline and have not had any problems (thankfully)

Once paid you can access your booking on the airline site and add bags, pay for seats ect if you so desire.

You can add only 1 bag ( we did this last year) with BA its £90 (£45 each way)

We've booked via Expedia for 2020 as they were the cheapest option.

Hope that helps
